Jonathan C. Smith, Ph.D., was a leader for diversity, equality and inclusion on the Saint Louis University campus. Despite his passing in 2021, his work serves as a vision for the SLU community.
Dr. Smith joined SLU in 2002 as an assistant professor in the Department of American Studies. In 2011, he moved to the Department of African American studies, before being elevated to the university's chief diversity officer and finally, vice president for diversity and community engagement.
Dr. Smith's legacy continues to serve as a guide for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at SLU.
