Be the Reason: Meet Prosperity Meade
Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing Student
For Saint Louis University Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing student Prosperity Meade, receiving financial assistance means she can spend more time on campus, studying and enjoying student life.
“Hanging out with friends, being at the library — those are things some may take for granted but have meant so much to me,” Meade said.
When Meade first came to SLU, she was paying part of her tuition herself, which she said became stressful. Meade receives a SLU Housing Grant, financial need-based scholarships and the Murray-Nursing Stipend and Murray-Nursing Workforce Scholarship.
“That’s basically covered almost my whole cost of education, which is just amazing,” she said. “That honestly took a lot off my shoulders.”
SLU's Influence
Meade wasn’t wholly committed to nursing when she started studying at SLU, she said. After hearing about her professor’s experiences in the field and starting her nursing coursework, she felt confident nursing was the right career for her.
“I learned there’s so many different pathways I can take through nursing,” she said. “Being at SLU helps me be exposed to so many ways I can help in the community, also.”
Meade shadowed in a hospital’s emergency department, a transitional care unit and in a neonatal intensive care unit. She considered each of those areas before determining her career goals. Those experiences helped her realize that she might enjoy a fast-paced environment as a nurse, Meade said.
Every dollar counts so much to us.”

After graduating, Meade hopes to work as a nurse in the St. Louis area and eventually become a travel nurse. She said that the people she’s met at SLU and what she’s learned about the Jesuit mission have influenced how she approaches different situations and has enabled her to be her best self. She is excited by the opportunity to travel and impact communities nationwide.
“I hope to be able to think about not just the person as a patient but the person as a whole person,” she said.
Meade also said she feels grateful for the donors who give to SLU and knows her friends are thankful for their support, too.
“Every dollar counts so much to us,” she said.
