Boeing Awards SLU $100,000 to Enrich STEM and Business Education
Saint Louis University recently received $100,000 from The Boeing Company to help equip the next generation of engineering and business students for careers in the aerospace industry. The contribution will support students in the School of Science and Engineering and Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, enhance the University’s STEM Immersion Experience Camp for underrepresented high school juniors and seniors, and benefit the Student Veterans Association.
“We are incredibly grateful for Boeing’s generosity,” said Wendy Schlesinger, executive director of corporate and foundation relations at SLU. “Since 2012, Boeing has sponsored 314 scholarships for SLU students and provided funding for STEM programs and veterans’ initiatives. The company’s commitment to advancing SLU’s top-tier science, engineering and business education plays a significant role in our students’ success.”
Chris Penberthy, director of undergraduate enrollment for the School of Science and Engineering and facilitator of the school’s summer camp program, said The Boeing Company’s contribution will help strengthen hands-on learning and industry connections for the STEM Immersion Experience campers.

The camp, designed to encourage students to pursue STEM careers, is open to rising high school juniors and seniors with a 2.5 or higher GPA.
“This funding will help us inspire students from all backgrounds to explore fields in science, technology, engineering and math with confidence and curiosity,” he said.
Candace Howell, D.S.L., Boeing’s central region senior manager for state advocacy and global engagement, emphasized the value of collaborating with SLU to cultivate a robust pipeline of business and engineering students and to introduce youth to STEM careers.
“We are excited to continue working with Saint Louis University as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting SLU students and others throughout the St. Louis region and beyond,” Howell said. “Our partnership extends into immersive programs for younger students, reinforcing the importance of providing science and engineering education at earlier ages.”
