The All of Us Research bus will be on the campus of Saint Louis University the week of April 22-26.

The All of Us Research Program is an effort by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to gather data from one million or more people living in the United States to accelerate research and improve health.

By taking into account individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology, researchers hope to uncover paths toward delivering precision medicine. Researchers hope to have participants who reflect the diversity of America, including volunteers of many races and ethnicities, age groups, geographic regions, gender identities, sexual orientations, and health statuses, according to the NIH.

"This is a monumental initiative that will involve more than a million people from across the country," said Tom Burroughs, Ph.D., dean of the College for Public Health and Social Justice. "Places like SLU, located in the Midwest and with a diverse body of students, faculty and staff, are very important to the initiative."

The data collected will be shared with both researchers and participants. The NIH will make the data collected accessible to researchers of all kinds, to support thousands of studies.

"All of Us will directly benefit SLU researchers and clinicians," Burroughs said. "It will provide unprecedented information for important research, and will lead to the ability to deliver precision medicine."

According to the NIH, All of Us will combine blood and urine samples; physical measurements; electronic health records; surveys about participants’ health histories, family medical histories, lifestyles, and communities; and eventually wearable data to get a more complete picture of human health across many conditions.

The Mobile Education and Enrollment Center is traveling across the country to engage communities and raise awareness about the All of Us Research Program. It features a virtual reality experience that teaches people how medical breakthroughs have made a difference in today’s world and gives visitors an opportunity to leave behind a message of inspiration.

Visitors who join the program can also provide physical measurements and blood and urine samples on board . Burroughs said the registration process was easy and only took about 15 minutes.
