SLUCare Physicians Named To St. Louis Magazine's Best Doctors 2019 List

St. Louis Magazine has released its 2019 Best Doctors issue, revealing the area's top physicians as selected by other doctors. The list includes physicians representing SLUCare Physician Group across more than 40 different specialties.

In addition to the SLUCare doctors who made the Best Doctors List, the magazine also featured a number of stories about medical faculty affiliated with Saint Louis University. 

Dermatologist and Mohs surgeon Ramona Behshad, M.D., was quoted about the dramatic increase in the rate of skin cancer.

Otolaryngologist Greg Ward, M.D., talked about how a flexible robotic surgical system at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital allows better access to treat tongue and tonsil cancer.

Pediatrician Ken Haller, M.D., family medicine physician Denise Hooks-Anderson, M.D., and geriatrician John Morley, M.D., were quoted in a story about vaccinations for patients of all ages.

The magazine profiled father-son medical duo Paul A. Young, Ph.D., who said he misses teaching after retiring from SLU last year at age 93, and Paul H. Young, M.D., a neurosurgeon and SLU alum.

The magazine also highlighted work to identify and end period poverty coming out of SLU's College for Public Health and Social Justice. The lack of access to menstrual supplies and education, was an issue in both Ethiopia and St. Louis, according to research from Anne Sebert Kuhlmann, Ph.D., associate professor of behavioral science and health education.

Kuhlmann received a grant from the Incarnate Word Foundation to study how low-income women in high-resource countries like the United States manage their periods, publishing her findings in January.

The list is based on the annual “Best Doctors in America” database, which considers more than one million peer evaluations to create a directory of approximately 40,000 doctors, from 40 medical specialties and 400 subspecialties.
