Saint Louis University School of Medicine students and faculty held a Black Lives Matter protest along Grand Blvd. between the School of Medicine and SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital on Friday, June 12.

The event began at noon. Students and faculty paused at 12:15 p.m. for a moment of reflection, silence, prayer and solidarity while standing in protest of the violence directed at Black community members and to further exemplify that Black lives matter.

Saint Louis University School of Medicine students and faculty also participated Friday, June 5, in national #WhiteCoats4BlackLives protests at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Established in 1836, Saint Louis University School of Medicine has the distinction of awarding the first medical degree west of the Mississippi River. The school educates physicians and biomedical scientists, conducts medical research, and provides health care on a local, national and international level. Research at the school seeks new cures and treatments in five key areas: infectious disease, liver disease, cancer, heart/lung disease, and aging and brain disorders.
