The annual conference brings student government leaders from Jesuit universities together to build leadership skills to “better serve their institutions in the Jesuit tradition,” as described on by the Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the sponsoring organization.

The University’s student government team engaged in meaningful conversations around leadership, the fundamentals of cura personalis, and the importance of taking care of oneself before pouring into others.

The conference also created space for the student leaders from different institutions to connect with each other about student needs that are pertinent on their respective campuses.

“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to learn and grow with peers from other Jesuit institutions,” junior Aric Hamilton, the 2022-23 Student Government Association president, said. “I’m excited to share some of the ideas brainstormed from this experience.”

The students from each university were joined by advisors. From SLU, that was Gregory Bowens, the graduate intern for the Division of Student Affairs.

Bowens highlighted the impact of an immersive game the students and advisors played during the conference. The game highlighted how situations can impact communities differently, and frequently in ways that are inequitable. The student leaders, Bowens said, were humbled and reminded of how the Jesuit mission calls them to return to their campuses to walk with and serve all of their students.
