SLU Launches New Website

After more than 18 months of planning and work, Saint Louis University launched a new website (slu.edu) July 25. It marks the first major redesign of the SLU website — which receives more than 19.9 million page views a year — since 2010.

SLU’s new, responsive website provides similar user experiences on desktop and mobile devices.

SLU’s new website reflects input from numerous stakeholders throughout the University. The web redesign process was collaborative, guided by a committee that included faculty, staff and student representatives.

To ensure that the new website follows best practices, SLU partnered with mStoner, a marketing and communications company that works exclusively in the educational field and whose clients include several Jesuit institutions.

The new slu.edu is responsive, meaning that it is designed to give users a great experience regardless of their device — desktop computer, tablet or smartphone. (During calendar year 2015, mobile traffic to the site was up 156 percent.)

There’s also a greater emphasis on visuals, with more videos, photos and infographics.

“In today’s digital world, people rely on websites for more than just information; they want an experience,” said Jeff Fowler, SLU’s vice president for marketing and communications. “Our new website offers our visitors a more compelling look into the transformative experience that makes a SLU education distinctive.”

Fowler added that the University worked to create content that amplifies SLU’s strengths while building relationships with prospective students and their families, alumni, current students, and other key audiences.

The launch of SLU’s new website is the latest in the University’s efforts to enhance its brand identity, “Higher Purpose. Greater Good.” Last year, SLU unveiled new looks for two of its most enduring symbols — the University fleur-de-lis and the Billiken.
