Atlas Program Accepting 2017 Keynote Speaker Proposals

The 17th annual program will be held the week of April 2-8, 2017.

Atlas Week 2016 LogoThe Atlas Program is now accepting proposals for the 2017 Atlas Week Program keynote speaker. The Planning Committee is looking for a speaker who is actively working to address a contemporary global injustice and who can inspire students to get involved.

To nominate a speaker, submit a proposal(s) online, and include the speaker’s name, a brief bio and a video link if available.

The Atlas Week 2016 keynote speaker was Kilian Kleinschmidt, refugee relief expert and former manager of the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan, the largest Syrian refugee camp. Last year, Atlas Week also welcomed a special guest lecturer, Mukesh Kapila, Ph.D., an international aid diplomat who exposed the genocide in Darfur in his position as U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator for Sudan.

In the Spring of 2001, Saint Louis University launched a new initiative known as the Atlas Program. This one-week program was designed to recognize the international dimension of Saint Louis University's academic programs and to celebrate SLU's role in international education and service in light of our Jesuit tradition. The primary goal of the Atlas Program is to increase awareness of the global issues that confront us today in an effort not only to promote discussion, but to inspire and inform action. It focuses on what we as global citizens can do to contribute to a better life for all people now and in the future. The Atlas Program epitomizes the Jesuit mission of SLU and highlights how SLU truly is a place where "knowledge touches lives."
