Young entrepreneurs taking part in this year’s 2017 Allsup High School Entrepreneurship Summer Academy will have the chance to hear from Mikaila Ulmer, founder and CEO of Me & the Bees Lemonade, as this year’s keynote speaker. Spots are still available for high school students wishing to attend the academy hosted by the Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship at the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business.

The academy kicks off July 24 and runs to July 28. This year’s group of high school students will have the opportunity to grow and learn from their peers, meet industry experts from the St. Louis community and collaborate with SLU faculty and staff.

The Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship is offering a special 50 percent off discount to SLU employees for their children to attend. Scholarships are also available.

Other highlights of this year’s program will include site visits to creative co-working spaces such as T-Rex and Tech Artista and to area restaurants to meet their founders. Students will also hear from guest speakers who will share their experiences and advice.

Past destinations have included Pi Pizzeria for a presentation by restauranteur Chris Sommers and the Fountain on Locust to meet with founder Joy Grdnic.

While on campus, students will participate in a Kickstarter challenge, present elevator pitches, and will compete in a final challenge of pitching to a panel of professionals.

Ulmer, of Austin, Texas, sold her award-winning lemonade from her lemonade stand for four years before being picked up by Whole Foods Market. Her company, Me & the Bees Lemonade, is an award-winning, natural lemonade with flaxseed and sweetened with honey. Ulmer is determined to quench the thirst of her customers and inspire healthy habits, while educating families about the importance of honeybees and how to save them. Ulmer’s business gives back to the community and she facilitates workshops about honeybees and entrepreneurship. Me & the Bees also donates ten percent of the profits from its sales to organizations supporting these efforts.
