Help SLU Compete in RecycleMania 2017

RecycleMania is a friendly competition with regional and national colleges and universities to see who can collect the most single-stream recycling and e-waste recycling on their campuses. This year’s competition will run from Feb. 5 to April 1, and is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability and Benchmarking..

Our Goal: Minimize waste going to the landfill. Last year during RecycleMania 807,200 pounds of waste from SLU was sent to the landfill. Each week we will update the SLU community via signage around campus on the how we are doing compared to the same time period as last year.

How you can get involved:

What can you recycle in the blue bins on campus?

Paper: Cardboard, newspapers, office paper, posters, pizza boxes. (Do not recycle paper cups, paper to-go containers, napkins or paper plates. These items are contaminated and are disposed of at the recycling center.)

Plastic: Cups, jugs, bottles, and you can keep your lids on. Any item with the numbered stamp 1-7. (Do not put Styrofoam in the blue recycling bins. Styrofoam cannot be recycled in the single-stream process.)

Metal: Soda cans, steel cans, empty aerosol cans.

Glass: All colors, shapes and sizes of glass bottles and jars. Be sure to empty these items. (Do not put window glass or mirrors in recycling bins.)

Events planned during the competition include:

Green Games: Basketball at Chaifetz Arena

Battle for the Boot: Running now through May 31, the Battle for the Boot is a shoe collection program that supports the efforts of Shoeman Water Project in providing clean water to developing countries. SLU has participated in the battle against water poverty for the past four years. Matched pairs of new or used shoes can be dropped off at collection sites across campus. Help us promote the program, by printing and posting this flyer in your area. More information can be found here.
