Undergraduate Writing Award Open for Creative Nonfiction Submissions

The Library Associates Undergraduate Writing Award is open for submissions for the 2016-17 cycle through Monday, Feb. 20.

Conferring a first prize of $500 and an honorable mention of $300, the award honors undergraduate literary achievement in three genres: short fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction.

This year’s genre is creative nonfiction. Creative nonfiction is a type of prose that employs the literary techniques usually associated with fiction or poetry to create factually accurate narratives. The genre of creative nonfiction is broad enough to include travel writing, nature writing, science writing, literary journalism and reportage, general-interest criticism, argumentative or idea-based essays, personal essays, and memoirs.

Submissions must be received by Feb. 20, 2017. For further details on the award, including its submission requirements and timeline, visit the Undergraduate Writing Award webpage.
