St. Ignatius was a 16th Century mystic whose experiences led him to believe God is present in all things. He attracted a small group of companions with the mission of "helping souls." In 1540, he and his companions were officially recognized as the Society of Jesus by the Catholic Church and by 1548, the order had made involvement in education their focus as a practical way of influencing society for good. St. Ignatius died on July 31, 1566 after serving as the order's superior general for 16 years. The order later became known as the Jesuits.

All members of the University community are welcome to attend the Mass and lunch sponsored by the Office of Mission and Identity. Registration for the lunch is encouraged.
