Register by May 12 for Pediatrics Research Symposium

Registration ends May 12 for Saint Louis University's 11th Annual Pediatric Science Days and Symposium. Two experts in pediatric medicine will be the featured speakers at the three-day event which aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among those working in childhood health topics.

Sharon Levy, M.D., and Ofer Levy, M.D., both currently at Harvard University, will present their work at research seminars, a special multi-department Grand Rounds and will lead a discussion for early-career researchers and students between May 17 and May 19.

Sharon Levy specializes in the effects of substance abuse particularly in the adolescent population. She is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on drug abuse and has served as a panelist at the National Institutes of Health and at the White House. Her work has been supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Ofer Levy’s research focuses on studies of immune mechanisms that protect the developing human host against infection, particularly as they relate to vaccine-induced protective immunity. His work has led to novel clinically-based approaches to the development of diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic modalities for immune deficiencies in newborns, children, and in those undergoing chemo-radiotherapy. His work has been supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and U.S. Department of Defense. Ofer Levy has also mentored over 30 trainees and junior faculty at his home institution, across the United States and internationally since 2005.

The science days and symposium event focuses on all aspects of child health. It is a joint initiative of the Departments of Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, the College of Public Health and Social Justice and SSM Health’s Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

The schedule of events includes:
