More Presidential Scholarship Interviewees Come to Campus

02/22/2018

Some of the nation's most gifted high school students will be on campus this week for the first of two Presidential Scholarship Interview Weekends. During both weekends, about 520 high school students will interview for the award.

The students’ visits to SLU began on Thursday, Feb. 22, and were set to continue through Saturday, Feb. 24. While on campus, the students will interview for a Presidential Scholarship, which provides full tuition for four years. Faculty and staff are urged to help welcome these visitors and their families to campus.

Candidates for the award could take part in an optional overnight stay in the residence halls on Thursday, Feb. 22. On Friday, Feb. 23, visitors were set to attend a class and have lunch with current Presidential Scholars. The candidates could also opt to take a trolley tour of the city, including the Central West End and Busch Stadium or an expansive tour of the SLU campus, which was to include the new Academic Tech Commons, residence halls and St. Francis Xavier College Church.

The weekend was set to officially kick-off with the President’s Welcome Reception in the atrium of the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, giving interviewers an informal opportunity to meet the candidates. Any faculty or staff that would like to attend this reception are welcome to do so.  Please register here for more information.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, leaders from the St. Louis community as well as University alumni were scheduled to join current Presidential Scholars and SLU faculty and staff members in interviewing this year’s finalists.

In order to qualify for a Presidential Scholarship, students must score a 30 on the ACT and achieve a cumulative 3.85 grade point average. Potential Presidential Scholars must also demonstrate extensive leadership and outreach qualities.
