Toast of SLU Hosting Open House

02/16/2018

Toast of SLU will host an Open House on from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22., in the HR Training Room 128 at the Marvin and Harlene Wool Center. Light refreshments provided.

Those interested in improving their leadership or speaking skills in 2018 should consider joining SLU's Toastmasters Club, Toast of SLU.

Toast of SLU is open to the Saint Louis University community and surrounding areas.  Members meet weekly from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays in HR Training Room 128 at the Marvin and Harlene Wool Center to give speeches, take on leadership roles in meetings and offer constructive feedback to other members. Prospective members are also invited to attend meetings as guests.

The group's goal is to assist members in gaining the skills and confidence to effectively express themselves in any situation.

“While most people can communicate, the question is whether or not a person is a skilled communicator,” said Toast of SLU’s President D.C. Cooper. “Joining a Toastmasters Club provides an opportunity for individuals who are introverted or uncomfortable when speaking in front of people to overcome their fear of speaking, and extroverted or experienced speakers to learn how to improve their communication skills.”

SLU's club is a chapter of Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. Headquartered in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, the organization's membership exceeds 292,000 in more than 14,350 clubs in 122 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people of all backgrounds become more confident in front of an audience.
