Admission Office Seeks Volunteers for Scholarship Interview Weekends

01/11/2018

Faculty and staff members are needed to serve as interviewers for three scholarship interview weekends hosted by the Office of Admission in February and March. The three interview weekends are for applicants for two freshman scholarships: the Presidential Scholarship and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.

Faculty and staff members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of weekends as opportunities to serve to aid in the recruitment of the University’s fall 2018 freshman class.

The full-tuition Presidential Scholarship is awarded to a select number of SLU’s most qualified freshman applicants. This year, the University will invite approximately 500 students to interview for the Presidential Scholarship during the course of two consecutive weekends. Interviews will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 24.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is awarded to students who are committed to promoting diversity in society. Awardees must demonstrate leadership in multicultural, school or community activities that espouse King’s ideals and present a vision to increase diversity on SLU’s campus. Interviews for this scholarship will take place on Saturday, March 24.

Each program also will feature an optional Friday evening reception that gives interviewers an informal opportunity to meet the candidates. Breakfast and lunch will be served at each interview event.

Because the scope of each scholarship weekend requires the involvement of so many people, faculty and staff participation is essential to make each event a success.
