'Women Leading Women' Workshop Series Offered

01/30/2018

To develop a more broad conversation and common language around workplace opportunities and address the stated interests of women on campus, Lisa Dorsey, Ph.D., and Jessica Perolio, Ph.D., will offer a four-part workshop series, “Women Leading Women: Strategies and Support for Lifelong Career Development in Higher Education.” This workshop aims to empower women to reflect on their strengths, establish measurable goals, identify strategies to support their professional goals and connect participants with campus women mentors.

The workshop series was developed after a survey conducted by the Women’s Commission, SLU women showed an interest in increasing opportunities for professional development and mentorship. Research shows that women in leadership positions in higher education are not keeping pace with the number of men in leadership roles, despite increases in the number of women earning terminal degrees. Women in higher education often bring professional strengths and, at the same time, can face unique challenges in the workplace.

The series is scaffolded across four sessions during the spring semester. Sessions will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. The workshop dates are March 28, April 11, April 25, and May 9. The series is supported by Human Resources, Student Development and the Women's Commission.

As the Women’s Commission is a sanctioned university group, participants may, with their manager’s support, incorporate these workshops into their regular work hours.

To receive more information about the series, complete this Google form. Space in the workshop series is limited. Seats will be assigned on a first come first serve basis until capacity is reached.

The locations of these sessions have not yet been set. Those who RSVP will be sent the location information when it is determined.
