Revised International Travel Advisory Policy in Place

07/27/2018

The Office of International Services has issued a revised policy regarding international travel advisories in line with new guidance from the U.S. Department of State.

Saint Louis University is dedicated to providing and supporting international programs throughout the world to meet the diverse needs of its student population. The University also recognizes the importance of establishing policies and procedures to protect the safety and well-being of international program participants.

The State Department recently revised their consular messaging system and no longer issues Travel Warnings or Alerts to individual countries. Each country in the world is now assigned a Travel Advisory level 1-4. These levels may include varying levels for different regions/locations within a country.

The Office of International Services has updated SLU’s existing Saint Louis University Travel Warning Policy to reflect these new advisory levels.

SLU recognizes the risks to safety and security of students who travel internationally, and particularly to students who travel to countries, or regions within countries, in which the State Department (DOS) has issued a Travel Advisory Level 3 or 4 or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Travel Notice Level 3.

The University reserves the right to cancel or suspend any program of study, research or service at any time in its sole discretion if it determines that there is unnecessary or significant risk to participants.

Departments, units or individual students who wish to administer or participate in student international travel in a country or region within a country under a current DOS Travel Advisory Level 3 or 4, or a CDC Travel Notice Level 3, may request to appeal the program suspension through the International Travel Advisory Committee.
