SLU 200: Bicentennial Speaker Series Continues

The Saint Louis University Bicentennial Lecture Series, “The Jesuit Influence in American Spirituality, Education and Society,” continues at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at St. Francis Xavier College Church.

Matt Malone, S.J., will present, “Lessons from Pope Francis on American Politics and Civic Life.”

Malone is the editor-in-chief of America magazine and president of America Media. At the time of his appointment in 2012, he was the youngest editor-in-chief in America’s history. He also served two years as an associate editor, where he covered foreign policy and domestic politics. He was the recipient of the 2006 first-place Catholic Press Association award for essay writing.

From 1995 to 1997, Malone was special assistant and speechwriter to U.S. Representative Martin T. Meehan (D-MA), before serving as the founding deputy director of MassINC, an independent political think tank. He also has been co-publisher of CommonWealth, an award-winning review of politics, ideas and civic life. His writing has appeared in numerous national and international publications and his work and ideas have been featured in the New York Times, the Boston Globe and The Washington Post.

A light reception will follow the talk. Free parking is in the Laclede Garage.

Other lectures in the series are planned later this year.
