Mail Services Issues Packaging Guidelines Reminder

03/09/2018

Mail Services has issued a reminder about preparing envelopes and packages.

Faculty, staff members and students should refrain from using tape to seal envelopes. Partially taped items can create jams in meter machines, leading to damage. This causes delays in mail processing. When postage has been applied to the damaged packages and envelopes, new postage may be necessary, causing extra expense to departments.

If a large envelope requires additional sealing via tape, Mail Services recommends taping from end-to-end, rather than around the package’s addressed side. If not properly taped, the tape may encroach on the area where the meter stamp is to be applied, causing issues and delays.
