Pediatric Science Days Coming in April

03/22/2018

The Department of Pediatrics will hold its 12th Annual Pediatric Science Days and Research Symposium from Thursday, April 26, to Friday, April 27.

This year’s multi-disciplinary event is hosted by the Department of Pediatrics in conjunction with the Department of Internal Medicine and in association with the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation. The event is funded by a grant from Mead Johnson Nutrition.

Wade Clapp, M.D., Richard L. Schreiner Professor and chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University, physician-in-chief for Riley Hospital for Children, and professor of microbiology and immunology and biochemistry and molecular biology, will present a special Grand Rounds as part of the science days. Clapp was named Indiana University’s chair of Pediatrics in September 2009. He is a neonatologist and a physician/scientist with an active lab and grant support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) focusing on translational research. His research has been internationally acclaimed and has resulted in several clinical trials. He is also past director of the MD/PhD program at Indiana University, which is now an NIH designated Medical Scientist Training Program.

An all-day Research Symposium in the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Danis Auditorium is planned and will highlight diverse areas of research related to children’s health and well-being. It is intended to promote cross-University interactions.

A Special Interdepartmental Grand Rounds, cohosted by the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, will be held on Friday, April 19, in the Pitlyk Auditorium A, Learning Resources Center where Clapp will present work related to basic science, translational and clinical research endeavors to understand the molecular pathogenesis and treatment of neurofibromatosis.
