SLU 200: Bicentennial 5K Raises $6,300 for Helping Our Own Fund

The Bicentennial 5K Run/Walk raised $6,300 for the Office of Mission and Identity’s Helping Our Own Fund, following a successful race in April. The fund provides a one-time gift to any SLU employee experiencing a financial crisis.

Part of the University’s celebrations of its 200th anniversary, the walk and race took place on Sunday, April 15, beginning at Chaifetz Arena and looping around SLU’s Midtown campus.

Sixty-three people volunteered to staff and manage the event and 508 people registered to take part in it. The day was sponsored by the Staff Advisory Committee.

The check was presented by Ellen Harshman, Ph.D., director of bicentennial planning, Pete Garvin, chair of the Staff Advisory Committee, and Debbie Dill Garvin, development engagement specialist, to Cathy Zimmer of the Helping Our Own program.
