New Undergraduate Student Learning Outcomes Approved

05/02/2018

The faculty governance bodies of all SLU colleges and schools with undergraduate programs unanimously approved the University Core Student Learning Outcomes that will guide the creation of the University’s core curriculum.

Approval of the learning outcomes is a significant milestone as the University moves to develop a core curriculum required of all SLU students.

“The unanimous vote sends a strong signal to all about the faculty’s shared commitment to the outcomes, as well as the role of the outcomes as drivers of the faculty’s development of a new university core curriculum,” wrote Provost Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D., in a May 1 message to the University community.

Rooted in faculty-led efforts that began during the 2016-2017 academic year, the process to develop a set of learning outcomes began formally in summer 2017. The University Undergraduate Core Committee (UUCC) was established in late fall 2017, and led the core student learning outcomes process to University-wide endorsement.

Development of learning outcomes was collaborative and engaging as faculty reviewed, commented upon and edited multiple drafts of student learning outcomes. In the coming years, the UUCC will lead the University community to develop a core curriculum based upon the recently approved student learning outcomes.
