Campus Ministry Mass Collections Raise Thousands for Good Causes

Throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, congregants gave generously at the 9 p.m. Sunday Masses in St. Francis Xavier College Church.

As part of their celebrations of faith, SLU students, guests and other members of the SLU community gave more than $8,000 to benefit a number of SLU-affiliated causes and organizations through collections at the student-oriented Mass.

Those funds are now being distributed to the chosen organizations. With Campus Ministry’s commitment to helping students, the Student Emergency Relief Fund is always the first recipient of the year. The fund received $907.35.

Other groups which benefit from the 2017-18 donation campaign include the Pregnant & Parenting Assistance Fund; Xavier Winter Inn; Campus Kitchen; SLU Relay for Life; and Casa de Salud.

Two special collections – the Ash Wednesday collection benefiting the Church in Central & Eastern Europe and the Oct. 1 collection benefiting Puerto Rico - were also taken. In total, the students and others congregants gave $8,249.79.

The 2018-19 academic year 9 p.m. Mass collections will benefit the Student Emergency Relief Fund, SLU Dance Marathon, St. Martha’s Hall, MICA (Migrant & Immigrant Community Action Project), SLU St. Benedict Joseph LABRE Ministry with the Homeless, Students Helping Students Scholarship (STAT), and Our Little Haven.

Funds this year have already been collected in the amount of $1,873.44.
