Micah One-Day Retreat

Micah first-year students addressed the questions “Who are we?” “Where are we?” and “Why are we here?” while at the program’s annual one-day retreat held Saturday, Oct. 6, at SLU’s Il Monastero.

Together, they explored their roles in the Micah community and in the greater community, and reflected on the program’s pillars of service, community, academics, leadership and faith.

MIcah Retreat

First-year students in the Micah Program participated in a one-day retreat Oct. 6. Submitted photo.

The retreat program included two talks - a discussion about urban challenges past and present in St. Louis city, led by Benjamin Looker, Ph.D., associate professor of American studies, and a talk on voting rights/suppression by Micah senior intern Jacob Mitchell. Jacob's discussion was drawn from his capstone for the minor in Urban Poverty Studies, an interdisciplinary minor administered by the Micah program.

In addition to the talks, there were large group reflections led by sophomore Bridget Vivoda, as well as small and large group community building activities and reflections led by Micah sophomore mentors. Micah senior interns Cailin Tousuell and Micah Winters planned and ran the retreat with the help of other Micah senior interns and student leaders.
