School for Professional Studies Celebrates Nontraditional Students

11/06/2018

The School for Professional Studies (SPS) is celebrating Nontraditional Student Week this week. The festivities run through Friday, Nov. 9. The week honors and recognizes students who have made great sacrifices to accomplish their educational goals in a nontraditional way.

Nontraditional Student Week, or #NonTradWeek for social media, was created to celebrate the successes many people have made to tirelessly achieve their dreams and accomplishments, often times in the midst of working full-time jobs and juggling family responsibilities.

“We are very proud of our students and the sacrifices they make to achieve their educational goals,” Troy Hargrove, associate dean, said. “To be able to celebrate their success stories as part of nontraditional student week gives us the opportunity to share their incredible accomplishments, achievements and goals with the wider University, and allows students to reflect on their educational journey.”

This is the second time that SPS will celebrate the special week via its social media platform. The week’s campaign will feature current students, faculty and staff who took the non-traditional student route.

The week will also include special contests for current students with giveaways such as SLU T-shirts, gift cards to the best studying spots, an Amazon Echo and more. All of the contests and giveways are featured on SLU Online’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

“Celebrating Nontraditional Student Week is a great way to recognize and thank our students for all of their hard work and dedication to finishing their degrees,” said Isabella Perea, communications and analytics coordinator for SPS, explained. “It’s important to utilize our digital platforms, being that we are an online program, and what better way to do so than with our #NonTradWeek campaign. Being able to connect with our students via social media is an incredible blessing.”
