Saint Louis University’s staff and faculty members know that going forth and doing good in the world means going above and beyond their job descriptions. And it’s not just students who benefit from their work beyond the workday.

Hundreds of members from across the University spent hours cleaning roadsides, making blankets for animal shelters and coming together to create care packages for those in need as part of the University’s first Staff Day of Service on Monday, Oct. 22.

Departments served in the days leading up to the event or on Oct. 22, at sites on campus and across the St. Louis region.

In the spirit of “setting the world on fire,” departments and divisions chose to give their time and effort to helping local non-profits through the new volunteer effort. The service day also coincides with SLU’s bicentennial service challenge and allowed faculty and staff members to take time together to, in the words of Peter Garvin, past chair of the University’s Staff Advisory Committee and a member of SLU’s Department of Public Safety, “to display one of our best assets; the power and influence of our community working together to serve others.”
