Romantic Couples Needed For Research Study

Dixie Meyer, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Medical Family Therapy, is looking for romantic couples to participate in the research study "Examining Changes in Couple Dynamics and Mood Across the Menstrual Cycle. The purpose of the study is to examine the influences of hormones and mood and romantic relationships.

You may qualify for this study if:

  1. You and your romantic partner both agree to participate in this research study.
  2. Both partners are aged 21 or older.
  3. You have been in a committed relationship with your romantic partner for at least one year.
  4. One member of the romantic couple is a female who experiences a monthly menstrual cycle.
  5. You physically sleep (not just sex) in the same bed as your romantic partner at least once a week.
  6. On average, you see your romantic partner every day.
  7. The female partner is not using hormonal birth control (e.g. the pill, the patch, a vaginal ring, or a shot such as depo-provera) or hormonal medications (hormone replacement therapy, egg retrieval medication).
  8. The female partner is not pregnant, nursing or trying to become pregnant.
  9. The female partner has regular menstrual cycle meaning she has a period every month on average.
  10. The female partner’s menstrual cycle lasts on average between 24-35 days. This is the amount of days between the start of two periods.
  11. Neither you nor your partner are using any medication for chronic pain, depression or anxiety.
  12. Neither you nor your partner are currently experiencing a mood or anxiety disorder.
  13. Neither you nor your partner uses nicotine products.
  14. Neither you nor your partner uses any illegal substances including mind or mood altering substances.

The study will consist of:
