'Lived Religion' Photography Exhibit Opening

04/30/2019

A photography exhibit, #archcityreligion: Photographs from Religion in the Midwest by Lauren Pond, is opening in the first floor lobby of Adorjan Hall on Wednesday, May 1. An opening reception is set from 3 to 5 p.m.

In spring 2019, Pond was invited to Saint Louis University as the Lived Religion in the Digital Age Artist in Residence. She is a professional photographer based in Columbus, Ohio, whose Religion in the Midwest portfolio traverses boundaries of sacred space to explore religion as a powerful component of modern life, often in places and in ways we least expect.

During her residency, undergraduates in SLU theology classes met with Pond before beginning their own studies of religion in St. Louis and beyond. Alongside a selection of Lauren’s works, this exhibit features several photographs by SLU students.

Exhibit Abstract

What does religion look like? What does it smell like? Sound like? Even taste like? Just what is religion? Where do we find it? How is religion part of the history and experience of living in America? In the heartland? In St. Louis? These are the questions being explored by the Lived Religion in the Digital Age project, co-directed by Rachel Lindsey, Ph.D., and Pauline Lee, Ph.D., and found in the Department of Theological Studies.
