SGA Hosting SLUper Market on April 24

04/17/2019

The inaugural SGA SLUper Market farmers market will be open to the community from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. The event will take place on West Pine, outside the Student Health Center.

Organizer Dan O'Connell, a first-year SGA senator, said the idea for the market came from SGA's external affairs task force.

"We took a look at what other student governments were doing," he said. "Princeton does something like this on a much larger scale. They have 250-plus vendors and shut down a street."

Once the task force decided on a farmers market, O'Connell said members of the SIC and SGA pulled together to make it happen.

"Ciri Pocha, Sophia Izhar and Armina Osmanovic, who are all first-year senators with me have played a great role in making this happen," O'Connell said.

Vendors include Rudy's Flower Truck,  JuiceMasters Fresh Juice and Smoothies, El Chico Bakery, Whisk Bake ShopPrincess Delights, Two Men and a Garden and EarthDance Farms. Mesa Home and Found by the Pound will also have vintage clothing for sale.

Representatives from Billiken Bounty will have an informational booth and SLU art students will also be on hand selling original works.

O'Connell hopes the market can become a regular feature each spring and fall on campus.
