Patches Available to Protect Against WinRAR Vulnerability

The Information Technology Services’ Security team has been made aware of a currently vulnerability that allows hackers to create a backdoor into systems using a ploy that appears to be a legitimate file.

The weakness could affect more than 500 million WinRAR users and potentially SLU users. As a result, the Security Team is making patches available to protect campus users who use the file archiving program.

Users who are currently using a version of WinRAR that is older than the newest betta release 5.70 should go to WinRAR’s site and upgrade to the newest version of the program as soon as possible to mitigate this vulnerability or follow the link here.
