Microsoft Ending Support for Windows 7

12/03/2019

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows 7 Operating System in January 2020. SLU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) has requested and received a one-year extension to allow SLU users to continue using Windows 7 until January 2021.

During the extension period, the University will be able to continue to use Windows 7 on SLU computers. All campus computers running this version of the Windows Operating System will need to upgrade to Windows 10 or to be replaced with a new computer running Windows 10 by January 2021.

ITS, the Division of Business and Finance and the School of Medicine’s business and finance office have communicated with all University business managers on how to plan for any replacements that are needed.

ITS will work with all departments to upgrade applicable computers to Windows 10.

Computers that are less than four years old should be able to be upgraded to Windows 10.  Based on ITS research, most computers older than four years may not be able to run Windows 10 effectively.
