12/18/2019

Matthew “Matt” Zimmie, M.D., has been named assistant vice president and chief medical information officer (CMIO) for SLUCare effective Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. Zimmie was selected for his expertise and more than five years of experience as a CMIO.

Matthew Zimmie, M.D.

Most recently serving as vice president and chief medical informatics officer at Beaumont Health in Southfield, Michigan, Zimmie built a group of 12 physician informaticists in that role, as well as spearheading a successful ambulatory provider efficiency program, which saw a dramatic increase in EHR usage and physician satisfaction scores.

He was heavily involved in implementing artificial intelligence models through Epic in the development and implementation of predictive analytic programs. During his time at Beaumont Health, he also served as the chair of EHR Enhancement Steering Committee and the chair of Epic EHR Physician Advisory Council.

Zimmie is dual board certified in family medicine and clinical informatics. In addition to his medical degree and certifications, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Medical Informatics and is an Epic Certified Physician Builder.

He succeeds William Manard, M.D., SLUCare’s previous CMIO, who left SLU’s academic medical practice in 2019 to take a position in Denver.

Zimmie was selected after a national search led by an executive search firm, Grant Cooper, that specializes in health care was engaged to assist in the nationwide search. The firm was tasked with finding qualified candidates that had experience in collaborating with providers regarding the optimal utilization of Epic, with developing and implementing a clinical data strategy and with identifying innovative technologies that can provide strategic value to providers and patients.
