SLU Professor to Speak on Shared Missouri Heritages

Sydney Norton, Ph.D., assistant professor of German and author of German Immigrant Abolitionists: Fighting for a Free Missouri, will join a panel hosted by the German Cultural Society on Wednesday, Feb. 23, to illuminate the contributions of German immigrants to the abolition of slavery in Missouri.

The panel also features Dr. John Wright, author of Discovering African American St. Louis - A Guide to Historic Sites and Extraordinary Black Missourians, Dorris Keeven-Franke, executive director of Missouri German Consortium and author of Missouri, Where the Sun of Freedom Shines, and Rev. Starsky Wilson, social activist and CEO of the Deaconess Foundation.

Special guests will include John Hayden, police chief for the City of St. Louis, and Herbert Quelle, German consul general.
