Masculinity and Mixed Messages Workshops Planned

The organization Men Can Stop Rape will be coming to SLU’s campus to lead sessions aiming to address the mixed messages often displayed around masculinity and how those messages contribute to violence against women and others, with a goal of highlighting positive messages and building skills that can be transferred into the community.

Workshop Details

• A workshop session for students will be held Monday, Feb. 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 254, Busch Student Center. Register here.
• A workshop session for faculty and staff members will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pere Marquette Gallery, DuBourg Hall. Register here.

The workshops will provide a comprehensive approach to structurally shaping social norms around doing or saying something that challenges harmful behaviors and attitudes that might contribute to sexual violence. Using a framework, from theory to practice, this workshop uses positive messaging and identity building to help create performable action steps that connect to healthy masculinity as well as benefit the individual and the community.
