School for Professional Studies Hosting Distance Learning Summit

06/07/2019

Saint Louis University will host the fourth annual Eastern Missouri Distance Learning Summit on Wednesday, June 26. This year’s conference theme is “What is Your Name for Change?”

The summit will be held in the Pere Marquette Gallery, DuBourg Hall, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m

The Eastern Missouri Distance Learning Summit is intended to bring together leaders in the field of distance education from the eastern border of Missouri and will include keynote speakers, breakout sessions and a panel discussion.

“The Eastern Missouri Distance Learning Summit allows faculty, staff, and administrators to come together in the same setting and exchange ideas,” Sharon Spicer, academic coach in the School for Professional Studies, said. “It also allows for great collaboration. The summit often brings new ideas that can be utilized in the workplace.”

Those attending represent a broad range of positions throughout higher education, from instructional designers to administrators, faculty and staff members.

The summit will feature opening keynote speaker Tracy Chapman, Ph.D., dean of SLU’s School for Professional Studies and associate provost for distance education. Chapman has championed readily accessible services to support distance student learning and how Saint Louis University can continue to grow and expand. The title of Chapman’s keynote is “Distance Education Today.”

The summit will also feature closing keynote speaker Aretha Hardrick, Ed.D., director of academic success at Maryville University. Hardrick leads the on-the-ground work for Maryville’s K-12 Life Coaching initiative, oversees a team of life coaches and manages the peer tutoring program. Her keynote is “Disrupting the Comfortable Mindset of Business as Usual.”
