SLU Expands Career Services

SLU is enhancing and enriching career opportunities for students and alumni.

“Experiential learning and career development are two of the areas in which we are investing to better ensure student success,” said University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D. “We will enhance the value of a SLU education and emerge at the forefront of contemporary approaches to career services.”

The career services program now will fall within the organization of the Provost’s office, and will be overseen by Interim Provost Chester Gillis, Ph.D. Additionally, career services will be physically relocated this fall to a renovated space within the old Griesedieck Dining Hall.

Starting on Thursday, March 21, SLU will begin interviews for an Associate Provost for Career Development, who will assume the new position prior to the start of fall semester. The new Associate Provost for Career Development will lead the larger reorganization of SLU’s student career services program.

This effort will:

Improve career planning, preparation, and employment
Better coordinate and enhance internships and other career-oriented experiential learning programs
Grow and enhance university relations with community organizations and industry
Bring greater campus and community visibility to the value of SLU’s distinctive academic programs
Help to better ensure the success of our students and alumni

The changes are in response to requests from students and alumni, who seek greater assistance from SLU in their pursuit of meaningful and life-changing career opportunities.

Open Fora for Candidates

Three candidates for the Associate Provost for Career Development, who have been selected by a search committee, will visit campus for interviews during the next several days. They will present in open fora to the SLU community and answer questions on 11:00-11:50 a.m. in Carlo Auditorium in Tegeler Hall.
