The program is now accepting applications from current sophomores and juniors for its 2019 McNair Summer Research Internship Program. The summer program, which is scheduled to run from June 3 through July 26, will enable students to conduct an original research project under the supervision of a McNair Faculty Mentor and receive a stipend of up to $2,800.

Interns will also receive free housing on campus, as well as a meal allowance.

The deadline to submit a preliminary application for the summer research internship is Monday, April 15, and students can complete the online application.

To be considered for the McNair Summer Research Internship Program, students must first apply to become McNair Scholars and will subsequently be required to submit a summer research proposal. After completing the summer program, interns will be expected to continue meeting with their faculty mentor as well as participate fully in SLU McNair programs and services until the completion of their undergraduate degree program.

Formally known as the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the McNair Scholars Program prepares eligible high-achieving undergraduate students for graduate school, with emphasis on obtaining a Ph.D. The program serves first-generation college students who demonstrate financial need and are traditionally underrepresented in graduate education.

Students who meet these criteria and are enrolled at Saint Louis University, Fontbonne University, Harris-Stowe State University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Washington University in St. Louis and Webster University are welcome to apply.

Current sophomores and juniors who are interested in this opportunity may complete a preliminary application or send an inquiry to slumcnair@slu.edu.

Sophomores must be on track toward having 60 earned credit hours before the internship begins.
