SLU Showcases Ways to Give: Billiken 2 Billiken

by Jeff Ackels

Billiken 2 Billiken (B2B), an on-campus resale store that sells items back to students at affordable prices, is seeking donations as the holiday season nears.

B2B offers gently used items to students free and at affordable prices. It relies on donations to keep their operation open and is accepting of all donations that are in good condition. Donations range from kitchen items and appliances to desk organizers. Any item that cannot be sold in the store will be donated to other non-profit groups, such as animal shelters, the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

Students can bring donations at the store located on the ground floor of DeMattias Hall during office hours. The store is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2-7 p.m. If a large item is to be donated, B2B asks for individuals to email billiken2billiken@slu.edu to provide notice.

B2B will be closed from Nov. 24-30 as well as over the Christmas holiday, Dec. 20 – Jan. 1. Spring semester hours for the store will be set once the student workers’ class schedules are finalized.

Billiken 2 Billiken, formerly SLU’s “Trash to Treasure” program, was reimagined in 2018 to redistribute donated items back to students on-campus. The B2B program redirects usable items from landfill dumpsters to the resale shelves, and proceeds from item sales benefit student-focused efforts on campus.

As the holiday season approaches, Saint Louis University is highlighting organizations at SLU that could benefit from the gift of time or donations. To suggest a group or organization, contact Jeff Ackels at jeff.ackels@slu.edu.
