The Department of Public Safety will offer four sessions of its new co-ed self-defense course, Defense and Personal Safety (D.P.S.), during November. D.P.S. is a three hour-long basic self-defense course and does not require any prior self-defense training. During this course, participants will learn blocking, striking and hand-to-hand combat tactics.

DPS also has one more Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) self-defense course set for this fall. R.A.D. is a female-only basic self-defense course, and includes 12 hours of hands-on tactics where women will learn hand strikes, kicks, blocks and other strategies of defense. The R.A.D. course date will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

The D.P.S. and R.A.D. self-defense courses are offered free of charge, and are open to all SLU students, staff and faculty. To sign up for either course, go to SkillSoft and look under “Instructor Led Training.” For questions or more information, contact Officer Johsiey Litherland.
