President's Message: Announcing the Great Billiken Bake-Off

In a message to the SLU Community on Tuesday, Dec. 15, University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., announced the launch of the first Great Billiken Bake-Off.

Dear Saint Louis University community,

Have you already shelved your sourdough starters from the early days of the pandemic? Not yet fully in the full holiday spirit? Looking for another reason to get back to baking? What to show your Billiken pride while demonstrating your pound cake prowess?

It’s time for a little fun and a friendly challenge for our community. And what better activity to do while safely distanced from the world at home than baking?

So today we are excited to introduce the first annual Great Billiken Bake-Off!

The challenge is simple: Create a SLU-themed dessert, upload a picture (or pictures) of your dessert in this in this Google Form, and share it on social media using #SLUBakeOff. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, Dec. 22.

At the end of the competition, we will pick winners from faculty, staff, student and alumni categories. Your loved ones can judge on taste — lucky them. We will judge solely on the creativity of your SLU-themed design.

When we say SLU-themed, we mean anything. Clock Tower cookies. Pius Library pie. CGC cheesecake. The possibilities are endless.

Winners will receive digital gift cards and a fun surprise. (Unfortunately, the special surprise will not include a Hollywood handshake.)

Please join us in this opportunity to have a little fun, stay connected, gain a bit more weight, and celebrate SLU’s iconic symbols.
