University Monitoring Global Concern Over Coronavirus

02/04/2020

Employee Health and the Student Health Center are continuing to monitor the global concern related to the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was first detected in Wuhan City in China’s Hubei Province. So far, no confirmed cases have been reported in St. Louis or greater metro region.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently issued an advisory against all non-essential travel to all of mainland China. SLU has suspended all University-funded travel to China at this time. Individuals who have booked trips to China should work with their business managers and the travel office to change or cancel their travel plans.

While the CDC continues to report the risk to the American public remains low, it is now recommending that, regardless of whether someone is experiencing symptoms, those who have traveled to China within the last 14 days should stay home and monitor their health until the 14-day incubation period has passed.

SLU has launched a new webpage with FAQs about the coronavirus and other helpful information, including tips on ways to prevent spread of various viruses, including influenza and the coronavirus, which have similar symptoms.
