Dear SLU community,
I hope this email finds you safe and well on this beautiful fall day. I write in my
capacity as Director of the University Core to offer updates on where we are with
the implementation of our new University Core, and to announce the launch of our Core
Instructor Resources website.
Our new University Core was formally approved by SLU's faculty, administration, and
Board of Trustees in the spring 2020 semester. In the summer 2020 semester, the University
Undergraduate Core Committee (UUCC) invited a team of Core Associate Directors to
begin leading the implementation of the distinct component areas that make up SLU's
Core curriculum. The Core will launch for all incoming students starting in the Fall
2022 - Spring 2023 academic year.
The UUCC is pleased to launch of our Core Instructor Resources website, where instructors will find information about the Ignite First Year Seminar and
the Cura Personalis sequence. Our Fall 2021 pilot will include a limited number of
sections of our Ignite First Year Seminar and Cura Personalis 1: Self in Community
(10 sections each in St. Louis, 3 sections each in Madrid). Instructors interested in learning more about participating in the Fall 2021 pilot
and beyond are invited to visit our Core Instructor Resources website, where you will find information about these two Core components and details on how
to submit proposals for Ignite seminars.
Once the SLU Core CourseLeaf interface is ready to accept submissions, these will
route to Core curricular subcommittees for review on a rotating basis. Core curricular
subcommittees meet monthly in the fall and spring terms. The goal for the 2020-21
academic year is to translate as many existing courses as possible into the new Core
structure, so that we as a SLU community can see where we need to build capacity in
advance of the Fall 2022 launch.
