Skype for Business Is Retiring July 14

07/08/2021

Microsoft is retiring Skype for Business and is replacing all functionality of the venerable app with Teams. SLU's Information Technology Services (ITS) will be making changes to SLU’s Microsoft365 (M365), formerly Office365 (O365) tenant to support this retirement.

ITS is currently pushing Teams to all SLU computers, and Skype users may have noticed a message about a Teams upgrade.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 14, ITS will change the SLU M365 Tenant settings to move away from Skype for Business. These changes should only take 30 minutes to an hour to complete, and SLU should move forward with Teams.

An important distinction for those who use Skype personally: The home version of Skype, called simply “Skype”, is not retiring. This change impacts “Skype for Business” only.

Anyone with questions, or anyone who has an issue either during the upgrade to Teams, or post-migration, should contact the service desk at 314-977-4000 or via ask@slu.edu.
