Skype for Business is Retiring, SLU Switching to Teams

06/08/2021

Microsoft is retiring Skype for Business and is replacing all functionality of the venerable app with Teams. Information Technology Services (ITS) will be making changes to SLU’s Microsoft365, formerly Office365, to support this retirement.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 30, ITS will change the SLU Microsoft 365 Tenant settings to move away from Skype for Business. These changes should only take 30 minutes to an hour to complete, and SLU should move forward with Teams afterwords. In the weeks prior to this change, Skype for Business users will receive notifications to download and begin using Teams.

An important distinction for those who use Skype personally: The home version of Skype, called simply “Skype”, is not retiring. This change impacts Skype for Business only.

Anyone with questions, or anyone who has an issue either during the upgrade to Teams, or post-migration, should contact the service desk at 314-977-4000 or via ask.slu.edu.
