NSF Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention (PIPP) “Human” Workshop

The National Science Foundation Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention (PIPP) “Human” Workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners from diverse fields to understand how human aspects, including human attitudes, social behavior, and the drivers underlying, both shape patterns of infectious-disease transmission and efforts at control and eradication.

The virtual workshop will be held on Zoom Monday and Tuesday, March 22-23. The program begins each day at 10 a.m. CDT.

This is one of the four workshops in the NSF PIPP program. It is organized by Juliet Iwelunmor, Ph.D., associate professor in Behavioral Science and Health Education at SLU; James Holland Jones, associate professor in Earth System Science at Stanford University; Maya Trotz, professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida; and Vivek K. Singh, associate professor in the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University.

This interdisciplinary workshop will have participation from academia, government, industry and non-governmental organizations. Research disciplines are drawn from the purview of the following four NSF directorates: Engineering (ENG), Biological Sciences (BIO), Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), and Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE).

The workshop has four themes:

This workshop will bring together specialists on the Social, Behavioral, and Policy aspects of pandemic prevention. The goal of the workshop is a roadmap for research investments to address key technical and scientific challenges for pandemic prevention.
