Kat Lazo Named Hispanic Heritage Month Keynote Speaker

10/14/2021

The Cross Cultural Center for Global Citizenship and OASIS have named Kat Lazo of Spotify's The Get Up as the Hispanic Heritage Month keynote speaker. Lazo will speak at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18 on Zoom.

The Colombian-Peruvian New Yorker has made a name for herself as the Internet's favorite no-nonsense Latina who tells it how it is—in front of and behind the camera. She transitioned her popularity as a YouTuber into a thriving career as a video producer. With more than eight years of digital video production experience, her work has been featured by The New York Times, Huffpost, Latina Magazine and Buzzfeed just to name a few.

As a host, Lazo has worked and partnered with the likes of U by Kotex, Thrillist and Bustle.

As a video producer for the Latino digital platform Mitú, she is most known for her series The Kat Call. She developed and hosted the series, where she debunked taboos and misconceptions about the Latino community. Within three seasons, the series has garnered more than 20 million views.

As an associate producer, Lazo has traveled Latin America and the Caribbean for a feature documentary about Reggaetón by Mass Appeal and Universal Music. She continued traveling, but this time across the U.S. exploring "the vibrant world of Latinx culture" as the host of Thrillist's Barrio USA.

Currently, Lazo is the host of Spotify’s flagship morning show, The Get Up.

Members of the SLU community may register in advance for Kat Lazo's keynote address
