Mission Book Club to Read 'The Autobiography of St. Ignatius'

09/23/2021

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the cannonball injury that sparked the conversion of St. Ignatius. This “cannonball experience” allowed time for deep contemplation and led Ignatius to recognize the movement of his spirit, in consolation and desolation, and recognize the voice of God in it all. Ignatius began to see everything in a new way. This understanding was an invitation to embrace change and was the catalyst for a new way forward.

Today, we are the legacy of Ignatius’ conversion. This fall SLU's Office of Mission and Identity invites the University community to read "The Autobiography of St. Ignatius" together as part of the Mission Book Club.

In his autobiography, Ignatius refers to himself in the third person, as the pilgrim, a humble seeker of the fullness of truth. It is a charism of Ignatius the pilgrim and one that we, as part of his legacy, continue to forge.

A book and reflection/discussion guide will be provided for all members of the Book Club. Sessions will begin with a short Zoom introduction on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at noon, and optional small groups will meet the week of Oct. 20, closing with a large group gathering on Oct. 27.

To register and receive your book and further information, complete the online registration form.
