The goal of the Impact Report is to share the story of SLU’s rise as a preeminent research university and celebrate the impressive successes of SLU researchers.

The 2021 edition illustrates the breadth of SLU’s research enterprise, highlighting significant milestones and successes from a diverse array of fields, including vaccine development, geospatial science, drug discovery, the humanities, social and health inequities, plant science, and more.

A detailed account of how SLU researchers mobilized against the COVID-19 pandemic is also included this year. In the past year, researchers provided critical support to regional health departments, tested multiple vaccines, and administered those same vaccines across St. Louis.

The 2021 issue also includes:

The cover of the 2021 Impact Report pays tribute to the University’s Center for Vaccine Development and the hundreds of St. Louisans who volunteered to participate in one of the Center’s COVID-19 trials in the past year. The graph on the cover and the corresponding inside page represents the more than 400 volunteers who enrolled in the Moderna trial at SLU. SLU was one of the most highly enrolled sites in the Moderna trial, which included sites across the country.

The Research Institute publishes its Impact Report every year for the University community, its friends, and benefactors. The Research Institute published the first issue last year, highlighting successes from the two years since the establishment of the Research Institute in 2018.

In 2021, the Research Institute invited faculty, staff and student researchers to submit content to be published in the Impact Report. The 2021 edition includes announcements and updates solicited through that process. The Research Institute will announce the submission process for the next issue this summer. Information will be shared in Newslink and the SLU Research Biweekly Update.
